Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is a fighting game that promises to bring the excitement of Marvel's superhero universe to life. While I haven't had the chance to play the full version yet, my experience with the open beta has left me impressed. The game's unique take on tag fighting is a refreshing change from traditional fighting games, and it's clear that ArcSystem Works has put a lot of thought into its mechanics. One of the things that immediately stands out is the game's emphasis on team synergy. Unlike traditional tag fighters, where you need to learn multiple characters to be competitive, Tokon allows you to be strong with just one character. However, there's still a lot of value in crafting a well-synergized team and swapping between them. This system encourages players to experiment and find the perfect combination of characters for their playstyle. What makes this particularly fascinating is the game's assist system. Tokon doesn't start as a 4v4 fighter; instead, every match begins with just two characters on each team available. The remaining fighters need to be unlocked by landing specific combos or achieving certain milestones. This adds an extra layer of strategy to the game, as players need to carefully consider which characters to unlock and when to call assists. However, the assist system can be overwhelming for newcomers, and it took me some time to get used to it. The game's UI is clean and intuitive, but the assist system's hyper-specific rules can be confusing at first. Despite this, the game's depth and flair are undeniable. Every character has a unique style and abilities, and ArcSystem Works has done a great job of making them feel authentic to their comic book counterparts. From Spider-Man's web-zipping to Storm's weather manipulation, each character is a blast to play. In my opinion, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is a must-play for fighting game enthusiasts. Its unique take on tag fighting, emphasis on team synergy, and deep character customization make it a refreshing addition to the genre. While there are still some kinks to work out, I'm excited to see what the full version has in store.
